Serve hot or warm for breakfast or for a snack.
Preparation
- Pita Bread dough prepared and set aside
Procedure
- Cover oven racks with aluminum foil or place cookie sheets in cold oven.
- Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.
- Roll each of the 8 dough pieces into an l/8-inch thick round on a floured surface. Punch down the dough with your fingers and brush them with butter, leaving ¼ inch empty around the edge. Sprinkle the flattened, buttered dough with ½ teaspoon of sugar per round, or to desired sweetness.
- Sprinkle a large, flat platter with flour. Place one uncooked butter tart on the platter, and then slide the tart onto one of the hot, foil-lined oven racks, or onto a heated cookie sheet.
- Transfer remaining tarts in the same way and bake them for 5 minutes or until golden in color.
Serve hot or warm for breakfast or for a snack.
Tip — Kids especially like these tarts when cinnamon is added to the sprinkled sugar.
