Serve it for dessert or as a snack, or even for breakfast with fruit.
These cookies are Grandma’s specialty -- they taste delicious! Once you make them, you will know exactly what I mean. You do not need a mold or a cookie cutter to shape them -- just use your creativity!
Procedure
- First, ask an adult to help you. Begin by heating the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Next, place the milk, sugar and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir it frequently to combine as the butter melts and set aside.
- Mix flour, fennel, anis and mahlab to combine. Slowly add the warm mixture from the pan while stirring to make a dough. Knead the dough well until it is smooth and workable.
- Split dough into 12 equal parts or balls. Place each ball on the counter and gently press the mold over it to flatten it to1/4-inch thickness or less. Or, you can be creative and shape them the way you like.
- Finish the remaining balls the in same way. With the help of an adult, place them in the oven to bake for 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Remove cookies from the oven and set aside.
- Pour a cup of milk into a deep plate and dip cookies in the milk a few at a time for a couple of seconds. Remove them from the milk and place them on the same cookie sheet to cool and dry. When they are dry, store them in a covered container.
Serve it for dessert or as a snack, or even for breakfast with fruit.
Tip — Cookies can be kept in a closed container for a couple of weeks.
